To earn a high school diploma, students must complete 220 credits in specific subject areas, pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE), and pass Algebra 1 or Algebra 1A and 1B. College entrance requirements for the California State University (CSU) system, the University of California (UC) system, or independent colleges are more extensive than graduation requirements. Click here to see specific high school graduation requirements and minimum college eligibility requirements. Grade level is determined by the number of credits earned each year. Students who do not achieve sufficient credits to move to the next grade level are reclassified. For example, using the credit totals below, a Sophomore who has earned just 95 credits by August prior to her third year in high school, will be reclassified as a Sophomore. Credits needed to move on to each grade are as follows: Senior Status
| =
| 160 or more credits
| Junior Status
| = | 100 to 159 credits
| Sophomore Status
| = | 40 to 99 credits
| Freshman Status
| = | 39 or fewer credits
|
All students who need to make up credits are encouraged by counselors to either attend summer school or take 7 classes during the school year.
